What's New with Books

Posted at 07:34 AM on October 12, 2009

As far as my reading goes, I just finished Suzanne Brockmann's latest release, Hot Pursuit.

Hot Pursuit by Suzanne ...

This is Alyssa and Sam's continuing story and one of Ms. Brockmann's best. As always, she introduced a secondary romance, this time between Danny and Jenn. I can't wait for her next release to find out what happens with them. If you are a romantic suspense fan, I highly recommend  I didn't blog about Into the Fire because I must admit that I gave up on it before I reached The End. For some reason the story just didn't hold my attention.

On another note, when I went to Malaika Adero's editing workshop last Saturday, she talked about Simon & Schuster's development of e-books that contain video. Since I love new technology, that subject fascinated me.

This article from the New York Times explains it in detail.  http://www.nytimes.com/2009/10/01/books/01book.html?_r=1

Take a look at the vook for Promises by Jude Deveraux and tell me what you think of this new concept.

Could take away from the reader's imagination experience whilst reading. Looks like a book trailer to me.

Jennifer - what the video can include are scenes from the location where the story takes place, or in the case of a non-fiction book like a cookbook, could show how to prepare the recipe -- whatever the author wants.

I LOVE the idea of the cookbook having a vid...now that's productive! And, with some NF books ( like excersizing, etc. ) a visual image could really help out.

I think it would distract, too, unless it's nonfiction and shows you the locales or a celebration/custom/ritual you're not familiar with.

Hmmmm, not sure what to think. It may be ok sometimes but I think I'd prefer the old-fashioned way of reading and letting my imagination take control. Also, I just love the feel of a book in my hand while reading, can't explain it, it just does something for me. :

It sounds great for non-fiction. But for fiction, takes away the imagination-experience. Also places images into your head when the reader may want to forge their own visuals.

Well, it looks like the concensus from the writers is a great big NO. I love paper books too, but things are changing ...

Hmm...looks interesting but yeah, I just want to read.

But ...it might be nice to have as something extra for a favorite book that you've read over and over again. It could breathe new life into it.

Into the Fire didn't do anything for me either. I struggled to get to the end and happily put it down.
